Description: - ff. 294 - Dark brown leather over heavy wooden boards; five metal bosses (at least originally) on each cover; remains of two fore edge clasps. Fore edge tabs in kermis-colored leather. Label on the spine "Missale 1458" referring to the canon of the mass only (the actual missal was printed in 1484). - Early (possibly the first) owners of the book: Members of a religious order, i.e. not a secular group such as a cathedral; cf. the same note on the front and the back pastedown with the phrase "pro magistro et ordine nostro" that continues on the back pastedown, citing the 14 Moravian saints: Wenceslaus, Vitus, Adalbert, George, Procopius, Christinus, Benedict, Mathew, John, Ysaac, Cirillus, Methodius, Ludmilla and Cordula; note also the added mass on f. 214 for the Patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (6 October; this feast is unique to the Carmelite and Holy Sepulchre rites). Acquired by Columbia University in 1941 from the American Typefounders Library with their entire collection.
